Enter a frequency and its unit to see the equivalent in hertz, kilohertz, megahertz, gigahertz, and revolutions per minute.
How frequency conversion works
Hertz (Hz) measures cycles per second — the SI unit of frequency. Kilohertz, megahertz, and gigahertz scale by powers of 1,000, commonly used for radio signals, computer clock speeds, and network frequencies.
RPM (revolutions per minute) is also a frequency, just measured per minute rather than per second — 1 Hz (one cycle per second) equals 60 RPM, since there are 60 seconds in a minute.
Frequently asked questions
How many RPM is 1 Hz?
1 Hz equals 60 RPM, since a cycle happening once per second happens 60 times per minute.
What frequency is standard household electricity?
This varies by country: 60 Hz in the US and much of the Americas, 50 Hz in Europe, most of Asia, and Africa.
Why do computer processors list GHz instead of Hz?
Modern CPUs run at billions of cycles per second, so GHz (gigahertz, billions of Hz) is a far more practical unit to state than an unwieldy number in plain Hz.
