Pallet Volume Calculator
Enter your pallet's footprint and maximum stack height, plus your box dimensions, to find how many boxes fit.
Assumes boxes are stacked in simple aligned rows without rotation or interlocking patterns.
How boxes-per-pallet is calculated
This calculator divides the pallet's length and width by the box's length and width (rounding down, since a box can't be split), multiplying the two to find how many boxes fit in a single layer — then divides the maximum stack height by the box height to find how many layers fit, and multiplies the two together.
This gives a simple grid-aligned stacking estimate. Real-world palletizing can sometimes fit more boxes using interlocking or rotated patterns, but a straightforward aligned stack is the safest assumption for stability and is what this calculator assumes.
Frequently asked questions
Why does rotating boxes 90 degrees sometimes fit more?
If a box's footprint doesn't divide evenly into the pallet's dimensions, rotating some boxes 90 degrees can sometimes use the leftover space more efficiently — this calculator doesn't account for mixed orientations, so manual adjustment may find a better fit in some cases.
What's a standard pallet size?
The most common pallet size in North America is 48×40 inches (the "GMA pallet"), while Europe commonly uses 1200×800mm (EUR-pallet). Always confirm your specific pallet's dimensions before planning a shipment.
Does this account for the pallet's own height or weight limits?
No — this only calculates how many boxes fit by dimension. Always check the pallet's weight capacity separately, since a stack that fits by volume may still exceed the pallet's safe weight limit.
