Time Zone Offset Calculator
Enter a time and two UTC offsets to see the converted time and the hour difference between them.
Offsets are in hours relative to UTC (e.g. -5 for US Eastern Standard Time, +1 for Central European Time).
How time zone offset conversion works
This calculator takes a time at one UTC offset and converts it to the equivalent time at a second UTC offset, by adding the difference between the two offsets (in hours) to the original time and adjusting the calendar day when the result crosses midnight.
UTC offsets are expressed as hours ahead of or behind Coordinated Universal Time. For example, US Eastern Standard Time is UTC-5, and Central European Time is UTC+1, so a location on CET is 6 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.
Frequently asked questions
What is a UTC offset?
A UTC offset is the number of hours a location's local time is ahead of or behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). For example, UTC-5 means the local time is 5 hours behind UTC.
Does this account for daylight saving time?
No — this calculator works with fixed numeric offsets you enter. If a location observes daylight saving time, use its current offset for the date you're converting (for example UTC-4 instead of UTC-5 for US Eastern Daylight Time).
What does the day indicator mean?
When the converted time crosses midnight, the result shows a day indicator like (+1d) or (-1d) to show that the equivalent time falls on the next or previous calendar day.
